Activity: Major national membership and educational event for the national sheep industry. The annual meeting of ASI is held during this convention, Representatives from nine (9) national organizations are present at the ASI Convention, Ohio is represented on several ASI councils and committees.
American Sheep Industry Spring Legislative Trip – March 24-27, 2017
Location: Washington D.C
Activity: Major national lobbying event for the United States sheep industry. State representatives from across the United States meet with USDAM, U.S. Senators, and U.S Representatives about major sheep industry issues.

Statewide Sheep Shearing School – April 7-8, 2017
Location: Dave Cable Farm, Hebron, OH (Licking Co.)
Activity: Educational program to teach sheep producers the Australian method of sheep shearing. Participants will be provided the opportunity to learn an internationally accepted method of shearing. Details of the Statewide Sheep Shearing School will be available on the www.ohiosheep.org website in 2017
Ohio Sheep Day– July 15, 2017
Location: OARDC Sheep Research Facility, Wooster, OH (Wayne Co.)
Activity:Major educational program for the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association, OSU Animal Sciences Department and OSU Extension. Details of the 2017 Ohio Sheep Day will be available on the www.ohiosheep.org website in spring 2017.
Ohio State Fair “Taste of Ohio Café” – July 26 to Aug. 6, 2017
Location: Ohio State Fairgrounds, Columbus, OH (Franklin Co.)
Activity: Major promotional and fundraising program for the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association. These funds also assist with legislative activities as well as a variety of other programs sponsored by the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association.

Ohio Make-It with Wool (MIWW) Contest – Nov. 4, 2017
Location: To Be Determined
Activity: A promotional event for the wool industry, this popular event is conducted in cooperation with the American Sheep Industry. Participants make wool garments which are judged, displayed and modeled. Winners in several categories are selected to participate in the National MIWW contest held the following January at the National ASI Convention.
Buckeye Shepherd’s Symposium – Dec. 8-9, 2017
Location: OARDC Shisler Center, Wooster (Wayne Co.)
Activity: Major educational event for the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association, Ohio Sheep and Wool Program and OSU Animal Sciences Department. The annual meeting of OSIA is held on this date as well. These sessions will be designed to provide information to make sheep operations more productive and profitable.
Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board (OLCSB)
Represent the Ohio sheep and goat industry on the sheep and goat sub-committees. Nominate sheep and goat farmers to serve on Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board. Assist in developing sheep and goat standards acceptable to Ohio’s sheep and goat farmers.
Ohio Livestock Coalition (OLC)
Represent the interests of the sheep industry with other livestock commodity organizations. OLC is an organization consisting of other agricultural organizations. Information on the Ohio Livestock Coalition can be found at http://www.ohiolivestock.org/
Ohio Department of Agriculture Livestock Exhibition Committee
Represent the interests of the Ohio sheep industry on the ODA Livestock Exhibition Committee. This committee discusses issues annually related to the livestock exhibitions at Ohio’s county and state fairs.
Ohio Department of Agriculture Concentrated Animal Feeding Facility (CAFF) Board
Represent the Ohio sheep industry on the CAFF Board. Attend board meetings which are held at least four times per year.

Ohio Sheep and Wool Program
The Ohio Sheep Improvement Association works in coordination with the Ohio Sheep and Wool Program to carry out the purposes of the program. Those purposes include promotion, education, research, marketing, and producer services.
